Hello, everyone! 😊 I’m your friendly Korean Bibi, here to share the vibrant daily life, delicious food, and fascinating culture of Korea with friends all around the world. Are you having a great day today? One of the best parts of traveling in Korea is exploring the numerous convenience stores and local supermarkets on the streets.
Lately, I’ve been recommending various Korean snacks on my blog, and honestly, even though I say every snack I post is my favorite (laughs), the one I’m introducing today is a truly special guy that never, ever leaves my shopping cart. It’s the chocolate cookie ‘Miz Black’ from the famous Korean confectionery company, Orion!
A Hidden Gem of Korean Supermarkets: The National Chocolate Snack ‘Miz’

Miz is one of my favorite comfort snacks lately!”
Let’s take a look at the photo that I took myself. The retro yet cute packaging with red accents on a deep blue background really catches the eye, doesn’t it? This snack is a “national snack” that has been loved for a very long time, to the point where almost every Korean has tried it at least once during their childhood. It’s tiny in size, but the sweetness and charm packed inside are definitely not small. As you can see from the ‘HACCP’ (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point) mark at the bottom of the photo, it’s a safe snack that has gone through strict hygiene management, which I really appreciate.
About Orion, the Giant Behind the Snack
Founded in 1956, Orion is a leading Korean confectionery company that has driven the domestic and international snack industries for decades. Since its inception, Orion has operated under a strict founding philosophy: “Food for humans must be made with the utmost honesty and integrity.” Guided by this standard, they have successfully launched countless hit products.
What truly sets Orion apart in the food industry is its incredibly high operating profit margin. In the food sector, a 4% to 5% profit margin is the average, and reaching 10% is often considered a dream milestone. Amazingly, Orion consistently maintains an impressive profit margin of around 15%.
The secret behind this financial superpower lies in their global business. Among all Korean food enterprises, Orion is uniquely celebrated for conquering international markets. In fact, out of their total annual sales of approximately 2.23 trillion KRW, over half—1.3 trillion KRW—comes from overseas markets. The Chinese market alone accounts for a staggering 1 trillion KRW of that total.
Orion’s ultimate flagship product is none other than the “Orion Choco Pie.” Having celebrated its 50th anniversary as a steady best-seller, the Choco Pie holds an iconic status in Korea. Beyond its homeland, it has become a massive cultural phenomenon and enjoys explosive popularity in countries like China and Russia.
And the delicious ‘Miz Black’ cookie cubes I’m reviewing today are another hidden gem created by this very confectionery giant, Orion!
A Miracle Value Under 1,000 Won: The Joy of 900 Won ($0.60)
Prices are rising all over the world these days, right? Korea is no exception, so when you go to a large supermarket or convenience store nowadays, you can literally count on one hand the number of snacks you can buy with a single 1,000-won bill. But surprisingly, I bought this delicious Miz for only 900 won($0.60)! To find a chocolate snack for under 1,000 won in this day and age is truly an absolute steal—or as young Koreans excitedly say in slang, a ‘Gae-i-deuk’ (huge bargain). Thanks to this incredibly kind price, it has a magical charm that makes me grab several boxes without any financial burden whenever I go grocery shopping.
Small but Mighty! The Perfect Harmony of Crispy and Sweet
When you open the box, you’ll find very, very tiny mini chocolate cookies clustered together. They are adorable square shapes, smaller than a finger joint, making them perfect to toss a few into your mouth at once. They are also great for eating cleanly without getting chocolate on your fingers while working or reading. The moment you pop them in and bite down, a delightfully pleasant crunch fills your mouth.
And it doesn’t just taste like plain chocolate. As kindly indicated on the packaging photo, it contains 10% soft ‘white chips’. With every bite, the white chocolate studded inside the cookies gets chewed together, doubling the smooth sweetness. On top of that, the fine sugar crystals coated on the surface crunch nicely. The combination of these three textures is absolutely crazy! The rich flavor of cacao and the smoothness of white chocolate make a fantastic pairing.
A Snack to Prevent Bingeing for Dieters & Detailed Nutritional Info
The hardest thing to resist when on a diet is the strong temptation of sweet desserts. If you look closely at the nutritional information in the photo, the total content is 60g and the calories are 291 kcal. It consists of 170mg of sodium (9%), 44g of carbs (14%), 20g of sugars (20%), 11g of fat (20%), and 4g of protein (7%). Even if you eat the whole box, it’s less than 300 kcal. So, when you suddenly crave chocolate like crazy while managing your weight, it’s the perfect size and calorie count to eat in small portions with a little less guilt. The sweetness is intense, so even just eating a few pieces quickly brings a pleasant sense of satisfaction, which is a big plus.

Locals’ Highly Recommended Combo Recipes to Enjoy Miz 200%
This snack is excellent when eaten purely for its crunch, but there are special recipes that Korean locals enjoy to make it even tastier. The first way is to eat it with milk like cereal. Because of its small cube shape, if you mix it in milk and eat it with a spoon, the savory milk soaks into the chocolate cookies. It boasts a fantastic texture where the outside becomes soft while the inside remains crispy. Drinking the sweet chocolate milk left at the end is an unmissable joy!
The second method is to use it as a topping on thick Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is currently gaining massive popularity among younger generations in Korea as a healthy and filling dessert. If you generously sprinkle sweet and crispy Miz on top of slightly tart and plain Greek yogurt, you create a very special delicacy with perfectly balanced flavors and textures.
My Final Verdict: Is Miz Black Worth It?
Overall, Orion Miz Black is an absolute must-try if you are hunting for affordable, delicious, and uniquely textured Korean snacks. For just 900 Won, it delivers a premium chocolate experience with a satisfying crunch that is hard to find elsewhere. Whether you enjoy it straight out of the box as a clean, bite-sized work snack, drop it into a bowl of cold milk like cereal, or use it to top off your morning Greek yogurt, it never fails to satisfy a sweet craving.
Next time you step into a Korean local supermarket or a convenience store like GS25 or CU, make sure to look out for this blue-and-red retro box. It might just become your new favorite travel companion! Have you ever tried Miz Black, or do you have a favorite Korean snack of your own? Let me know in the comments below!
